Danville, feature, Vermilion County Regional Airport Authority

BY JOHN KRAFT & KIRK ALLEN

DANVILLE, IL. (ECWd) –

Vermilion County Airport Authority Commissioner Steve Foster updated the Danville City Council on the Airport Authority, why he resigned from that office in August of 2018 (essentially admitting to what we wrote in our articles), certain disqualifications for that office, property taxes for the Authority, and upcoming events.

Commissioner Foster started out by explaining a little of Illinois’ history with airports and airport authorities, and the qualifications and disqualifications of an Airport Authority Commissioner.

He talked about the history of the authority’s real estate taxes and how they have been working on obtaining a court decision to tax all of the property with authority boundaries.

He told the council that the authority had refurbished the old tower and was using it as a museum and educational tool, and upcoming events to be held at the airport this year.

We appreciate his long-overdue acknowledgement of our assertions that state law be followed in relation to commissioners of the authority (the AG agreed also).
