Washington (AP) — A former government contractor sentenced to the longest federal prison imposed for leaks to the press was released from prison under house arrest, a person familiar with the matter said on Monday. Told to.
Reality winner, 29, has been put under house arrest and remains under the control of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, he said. The person was unable to discuss the issue publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
She was convicted in 2018 of one charge of sending national security information. The prosecution said at the time that her ruling was the longest ever imposed for leaking government information to the press.
A former Air Force translator worked as a contractor at the National Security Agency’s office in Augusta, Georgia. She printed a confidential report and left the building, pushing it into her pantyhose. The winner told the FBI that he had mailed the document to an online press.
Authorities have never identified a news agency. However, the Justice Ministry has announced the arrest of the winner in June 2017. The Intercept reported on a secret NSA document. Prior to the 2016 presidential election, we detailed the Russian government’s efforts to break into Florida-based voting software suppliers and election authorities’ accounts. The NSA’s report was dated May 5, the same as the document leaked by the winner.
Her lawyer, Alison Grinter Allen, said in a statement that the winner and her family were working to “heal the trauma of imprisonment and regain the lost year.”
She said they “have hope with peace of mind” after being released from prison.
