SALINE, COUNTY (WSIL) — Day three of Illinois Governor Candidate Darren Bailey’s bus tour came through Saline County Wednesday.
Bailey was was at the Steam Café in Harrisburg as part of his Summer Bus Tour. He says his campaign is going well.
He expects a lot of volunteers for the 20-22 election. Senator Bailey also says Illinois’s leadership has failed.
He says it’s the government’s job to present the facts and let Illinoisans decide how to handle the information.
“I’m hearing desperation #1. People are concerned; they’re talking about leaving the state. They’re making plans. But yet, with a message of hope. With what they see taking place in Springfield with new elected officials, they’re hanging on.” said Bailey.
Bailey also put a focus on COVID-19 and how the current administration handled the pandemic. Bailey says the government doesn’t have the right to dictate mandates.
“I’m a free American. I make the choice if I want to wear the mask or I don’t I make the choice if I need to be vaccinated or I don’t. Have no problem with either one of those choices. Government does its best to get the truth out, the real information, to inform the citizenry and then the citizenry makes the choice of what they do.”
Bailey also made a stop in Fairfield Wednesday afternoon before heading back to central Illinois. Bailey is one of three republicans looking to win next year’s gubernatorial primary.
