Kabul [Afghanistan] August 9 (ANI): The Afghan government decided on Monday to provide weapons and ammunition to civilian militias amid increasing Taliban attacks.

The decision followed a meeting between President Ashraf Ghani and prominent Afghan leaders to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan, Sputnik reported.

In a statement, Cheong Wa Dae said, “At this meeting, decisions were made on supporting security forces, protecting and maintaining the republic, and uniting, strengthening, and swiftly equipping the public’s rebellion against enemy attacks.” Said.

Meanwhile, according to local media reports, a large-scale battle between Afghan troops and Taliban terrorists has been underway since Sunday night in the northern states of Balkh and Takhar.

Security forces regained control of Takar’s Falkar and Walsaji districts on Sunday after withdrawing from the capital, Tarkan.

The Taliban now control all districts of Helmand and have fought Afghan defense and security forces in the capital city of Lashkar Gah.

The Taliban’s aggressive attacks killed many government troops and innocent civilians. According to reports, the group has looted innocent civilians after occupying various areas.

The recent skirmishes of terrorist groups became aggressive shortly after US troops began leaving large numbers of war-torn Afghanistan under a new peace agreement signed between Washington and the Taliban last February. (ANI)
