(WSIL) — Election season is ramping up and some local lawmakers have announced re-election campaigns.

State Representative Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) was first elected in November 2020 and took the oath of office in January 2021. He says his campaign for re-election will focus on reducing crime and drug dependency in our communities, lowering taxes to attract more investment and employers to the state, and rooting out corruption to help restore the trust and faith of the people of Illinois in a representative government.

“We must address our financial obligations, stop spending money we don’t have, and take positive steps to lower taxes and stop self-serving politicians from further damaging the reputation of our state. We lost people in the last decade, one of only three states to lose population. My conservative record stands for itself and I am proud to be running for re-election as State Representative to continue to represent the values and views of the people of Southern Illinois.”

State Senator Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) also announced she will be running once again, but she will be representing some new people after legislative maps were redrawn. Though some of the new legislative boundary lines may still change upon the resolution of pending legal challenges, Bryant says she is confident she is best positioned to serve the people of Southern Illinois in the Illinois Senate.

“My record as State Senator reflects my pro-growth, pro-jobs, limited government philosophy. I’ve stood strong against what I think are executive overreaches and I’ve taken JB Pritzker to task for his failed handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Governor closed businesses, kicked people out of their jobs, and then horribly botched the distribution of unemployment benefits, causing hardship throughout the State of Illinois. The Governor’s lack of engagement with the legislature in managing the COVID-19 pandemic amount to the actions of an out-of-control chief executive and people are sick of it.”
