Madison, Wisconsin (AP) —Federal prosecutors announced on Friday that they would not prosecute a white police officer who shot Jacob Blake in Wisconsin.

During domestic violence in Kenosha in August 2020, police officer Rusten Shesky shot a black break. The shooting paralyzed Blake from the waist down, causing several nights of protest. A man in Illinois shot and killed three people and two in one of the demonstrations.

State prosecutors decided not to prosecute Shesky earlier this year after the video showed that Blake was armed with a knife. He was asked for a felony warrant.

The US Department of Justice launched its own investigation a few days after the shooting. Authorities reviewed police reports, witness statements, dispatch records, and video of the case on Friday by the civil rights and Milwalky U.S. prosecutor’s office prosecutors, enough to prove that Shesky used excessive force. Announced that it was judged that there was no evidence. Or violated the federal rights of Blake.

“Therefore, the review of this case ended without federal prosecution,” the Justice Department said in a news release.

Blake’s lawyer, Ben Crump, did not immediately respond to the request for comment. Blake’s uncle Justin Blake, who had been a family spokesman, also didn’t immediately respond to the message.

The Justice Department’s findings reflect January’s decision by Michael Graybury, District Attorney for Kinosha County, to successfully claim that Shesky fired for self-defense.

Investigators fought three officers for a few minutes before Blake was shot, shrugging the shock from the stun gun at some point, trying to enter the SUV when Shesky pulled his shirt and tried to stop him. I found that I was there. According to Grabley, the video shows Blake turning to Shesky with a knife and moving towards a policeman with a knife.
