Shelby Co., Ill. (ECWd) –

After the frivolous and unwarranted subpoena (which was later quashed by the court) filed by Shelby County State’s Attorney Ruth Woolery against the county’s contracted auditor, and after the County Board Chairman and Vice-Chairman both resigned from the board, the contracted auditing firm for Shelby County terminated its contract, as it has the right to do, in a letter delivered to the county clerk and county treasurer.

The termination letter indicated:

“During the past two weeks, Shelby County has experienced the resignation of key members of its Board of Commissioners which we believe will cause significant disruption in our ability to effectively perform the FY2023 audit. As such, we are terminating our agreement to perform the FY2023 audit, effective immediately.“

We wish Shelby County good luck in finding an auditor for the most recent and future audits. It will most likely come with a steep price since the county has made little to no attempt at complying with deficiencies noted in previous audits.
