Shamar Betts Sentenced To 4 Years; $1.5 Million Restitution For His Part In Market Place Riot –  –

Champaign, IL. (ECWd) –

Shamar Betts pled guilty in Federal Court earlier this year on one Count of “Inciting a Riot” and this week was sentenced to 4 years in federal prison, according to WAND he was credited with one year for time served awaiting trial on state charges that he plead guilty to at an earlier date. Three years of probation, and restitution of $1.5 million (reserved – until a future hearing on the restitution).

Minute entry for proceedings held on 8/19/2021 before Judge Michael M. Mihm. Appearance for the Government by AUSA Eugene Miller. Defendant SHAMAR BETTS present in person with counsel AFPD Elisabeth Pollock and Thomas Drysdale. Sentencing hearing continued as to Shamar Betts, Count 1 from 6/14/2021. The Court order defendant committed to the custody of the BOP for a period of 36 months. Following release from custody the defendant shall serve a 3 year term of supervised release. $100 special assessment is imposed. The issue of restitution is reserved.
